My honest answer? It can be hard… if you do it the “cold” way. Sending resumes online, waiting, no reply is very common.

But the easiest way I’ve seen actually works is something much simpler: Connections.

In Japan, relationships matter a lot. A friend introduces you.

A colleague recommends you. Someone you met at an event remembers you. Suddenly, the process becomes smoother. Less formal. More human.

I’ve seen people struggle for months applying online… and then find a job within weeks just because someone introduced them.

Another way that works well?

Start small, then grow.

Take a part-time job. Join a company as a contract worker. Even volunteer or join community activities. Once people know you, trust you, and see how you work, opportunities open up naturally.

Also, don’t underestimate this: Your attitude matters more than perfect Japanese. Of course, language is important. But many employers value: Reliability, punctuality, willingness to learn, good communication effort.

If you show these, people notice. And one more tip that’s very “Japan”: Be patient and consistent. Things may move slower than you expect. But once you’re in, stability is strong.

So if you’re trying to find a job in Japan, don’t just rely on online applications. Go out. Talk to people. Join communities. Let people know who you are.
