LIBERATION SCIENCE IN THE VEDA

Tad in naktam tad divaa mahyam aahuḥ

Tad ayam keto hṛida aa-vi-chaṣhṭe

Shunaḥ-shepo yam ahwad gṛibheetaḥ

So asmaan raajaa varuṇo mumoktu – 1:24:12

1. Naktam Divaa – By night and by day

1. Tat It Mahyam Aahuḥ – Scholars repeatedly explain to me this (Vedic Knowledge of Liberation).

1. Tat Ayam Hṛidaḥ Ketaḥ Aa-vi-chaṣhṭe – The intuition in my heart also looks forward to this:

1. Shunaḥ-shepaḥ Yam Ahwad Gṛibheetaḥ – The one whom Shunaḥshepa called upon when he was tightly bound in ignorance,

1. Saḥ Raajaa Varuṇaḥ Asmaan Mumoktu – He, King Varuṇa, will release us!

By night and by day, devoted seekers remain engaged in reflection, study, and contemplation. Learned scholars repeatedly impart to them, and to me, this sacred knowledge that leads toward liberation, guiding the intellect with clarity and conviction. Alongside this external instruction, an inner awareness also awakens in me. The intuitive light within my heart turns toward the same Truth, affirming and deepening what has been heard from the wise. I recall the example of Shunahshepa, who, when bound and distressed, invoked the Supreme Varuṇa with sincerity and faith. His call was not merely a cry of suffering, but a profound turning of the soul toward divine help. In the same way, I too turn inward and upward with trust. He whom Shunahshepa invoked is Varuṇa, the sovereign upholder of eternal order. Just as Varuṇa released Shunahshepa from his bonds, so may He free us from the unseen fetters of ignorance, error, and limitation. May He grant release not only from outward difficulties, but from the deeper inner constraints that bind the soul, leading us toward freedom, light, and lasting peace.

प्राता रत्नं प्रातरित्वा दधाति तं चिकित्वान्प्रतिगृह्या नि धत्ते।

तेन प्रजां वर्धयमान आयू रायस्पोषेण सचते सुवीर:।। -ऋ० १/१२५/१

Bhavarth:- The learned hero who is in the habit of getting up early in the morning, enjoys and maintains bliss in the morning (by meditation on God) and having acquired the enjoyable knowledge, he preserves it well. By the augmentation of that precious wealth of knowledge and wisdom, he increases his life and progeny by imparting good education and teachings. By so doing the remains always happy.

भावार्थ:- प्रस्तुत सूक्त का देवता 'दम्पति' पति-पत्नी है। जो भी पति-पत्नी बहुत जल्दी उठकर क्रियाशील जीवन आरम्भ करते हैं, आलस्य को परे फेंककर अपने कर्तव्यकर्मों में प्रवृत्त होते हैं, वे इस प्रातः काल में रमणीय वस्तुओं को धारण करते हैं। इन रमणीय वस्तुओं के महत्त्व को समझता हुआ व्यक्ति उन वस्तुओं को एक-एक करके ग्रहण करता हुआ अपने जीवन में पूर्णरूपेण स्थापित करता है। उषा के द्वारा प्राप्त कराए गए स्वास्थ्य को शरीर में धारण करता है तो प्रकाश को मस्तिष्क में। इन रमणीय वस्तुओं के द्वारा अपनी सन्तानों का भी वर्धन करता हुआ अपने जीवन को धन के पोषण से समवेत करता है और उत्तम वीर बनता है। वीर बनकर ही तो वह प्रभु को प्राप्त करेगा।

उत्तिष्ठ प्रेहि प्र द्रवौक: कृणुष्व सलिले सधस्थे।

तत्र त्वं पितृभि: संविदान: सं सोमेन मदस्व सं स्वधाभि:।। -अथर्व० १८/३/८

O Man, rise, proceed on, run quick and make your place on the Veda (Salile) in the Yajnashalla. There you having accordance with experienced yanks enjoy pleasure with herb-juice and well-prepared cereals.

भावार्थ:- आलस्य को छोड़कर हम गतिशील हों-कर्त्तव्यकर्मों को करनेवाले बने। रिक्त समय को हृदय में प्रभु के साथ ही बिताएं अर्थात् हृदय में प्रभु का ध्यान करें। ज्ञानियों के सम्पर्क में ज्ञानवृद्धि करते हुए सोम का शरीर में रक्षण करें और आत्मधारणशक्तियों के साथ आनन्दमय जीवन वाले बनें।

नववर्ष पर विशेष-

१. प्राग्नये वाचमीरय वृषभाय क्षितीनाम्।

स न: पर्षदति द्विष:।। -अथर्व० ६/३४/१

Bhavarth:- O learned man! Send forth your voice in the praise of Agni the self-effulgent God who is mightiest protector of men. May He remove our internal enemies greed, aversion etc.

भावार्थ:- हम प्रभु का स्मरण करें। वे प्रभु ही हमें आगे लें- चलनेवाले तथा सब शुभ पदार्थों को प्राप्त कराने वाले वाले हैं। यह प्रभु-स्मरण हमें द्वेष की भावनाओं से पार करेगा।

२. ब्राह्मणादिन्द्र राधस: पिबा सोममृतूँरनु।

तवेद्धि सख्यमस्तृतम्।। -ऋ० १/१५/५

Bhavarth:- The air takes tha sap of the substances according to the seasons which are means of taking the same from the wealth in the form of the earth etc. made by the Supreme Being uninterrupted of inviolable is the freindship of the air in the form of the Prana or vital energy.

भावार्थः- हे जितेन्द्रिय पुरुष! तू ब्रह्म-सम्बन्धी धन के दृष्टिकोण से- ब्रह्मसम्पत्ति को प्राप्त करने के लिए समय का ध्यान करके सोम का पान कर। यौवन में ही शक्ति का सञ्चय करने से हमें इस जीवन में ही अवश्य ब्रह्मसम्पत्ति प्राप्त होगी। ऐसा होने पर तेरा निश्चय से ब्रह्म के साथ सख्य अविच्छिन्न होता है- तू ब्रह्म से निरन्तर मैत्रीवाला होता है। जो भी व्यक्ति शरीर में इस सोम की रक्षा करता है, वह उस सोमप्रपाक प्रभु से अभिन्न मैत्रीवाला होता है। यह ब्रह्मसम्बन्धी सम्पत्ति है। इस सम्पत्ति को प्राप्त करने के उद्देश्य से हमें समय पर ही सोम की शरीर में रक्षा करनी चाहिए।

३. स्वस्ति मात्र उत पित्रे नो अस्तु स्वस्ति गोभ्यो जगते पुरुषेभ्य:।

विश्वम्सुभूतम्सुविदत्र नो अस्तु ज्योगेव दृशेम सूर्यम्।। -अथर्व० १/३१/४

Bhavarth:- Be it auspicious for our mother and father, be it beneficial for our cows, world, and men, be our world full of good fortunes and full of knowledge and we behold the sun very long.

भावार्थः- घर में सब स्वस्थ हों। हमें वहां ऐश्वर्य, ज्ञान व दीर्घजीवन प्राप्त हो। विशेष- यह सूक्त बड़ी सुन्दरता से मुख आदि द्वारों का वर्णन करता है। चार द्वार हें- चारों द्वारों को ठीक रखनेवाला ब्रह्मा इस मूल का ऋषि है। यह चतुर्मुख है- चारों उत्तम द्वारोवाला है। इन द्वारों के ठीक होने पर सब सुभूत व सुविदत्र की प्राप्ति होती है।

४. वैश्वदेवी पुनती देव्यागाद् यस्यामिमा बह्वयस्तन्वो वीतपृष्ठा:।

तया मदन्त: सधमादेषु वय: स्याम पतयो रयीणाम्।। -यजु० १९/४४

Bhavarth:- Vedic speech, the benefactor of humanity and the repository of knowledge comes unto us and purifies us. Through her may we in sacrificial banquets taking our pleasure be the lords of riches.

भावार्थ:- जैसे राजा सब कन्याओं को पढ़ाने के लिए पूर्ण विद्या वाली स्त्रियों को नियुक्त करके सब बालिकाओं को पूर्णविद्या और सुशिक्षायुक्त करे, वैसे ही बालकों को भी किया करे। जब ये सब पूर्ण युवावस्था वाले हों, तभी स्वयंवर विवाह करावे, ऐसे राज्य की वृद्धि को सदा किया करे।

५. मा भेर्मा संविक्थाऽऊर्जं धत्स्व धिषणे वीड्वी सती वीडयेथामूर्जं दधाथाम्।

पाप्मा हतो न सोम:। -यजु० ६/३५

Bhavarth:- O woman, full of physical and spiritual strength, be not afraid of thy husband, shake not with terror, cultivate the strength of your body and soul. O man, thou also shouldst behave similarly towards thy wife, ye both, like the sun and earth should become strong and resolute; whereby the shortcomings of ye both be removed, and ye become happy like the moon.

भावार्थ:- इस मन्त्र में वाचकलुप्तोपमालंकार है। स्त्री-पुरुष ऐसे व्यवहार में वर्त्तें कि जिससे उनका परस्पर भय, उद्वेग नष्ट होकर आत्मा की दृढ़ता, उत्साह और गृहाश्रम व्यवहार की सिद्धि से ऐश्वर्य बढ़े और दोष तथा दुःख को छोड़ चन्द्रमा के तुल्य आल्हादित हों।

सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामया:।

सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद् दुःखभाग् भवेत्।।

इस नववर्ष के अवसर पर प्रत्येक व्यक्ति नित्य रूप से वेदादि शास्त्रों के स्वाध्याय व अध्ययन का संकल्प लें, प्रतिदिन गायत्री-मन्त्र का जप करें, अपने घरों में यज्ञ करें, किसी से द्वेष न करें, मांस-मद्य-द्यूत आदि हानिकारक पदार्थों एवं दुश्चरित कर्मों को त्यागकर सुचरित कर्म कर सभी का कल्याण सोचें।
